After I joined the wheelchair user club myself in 2012, I realized that what we need is not just sympathy but real facilities to give us physical accessibility. When we began converting the old stone farm outbuildings to self catering holiday cottages in 1996, we already had wheel chair users in mind. Now that I have joined their ranks, I am beginning to understand that wheelchair users and disabled tourists need more than a wet room and a ramp. At Cwmiar we aim to ensure that the wheel chair user has the same access to amenities as able-bodied holiday makers. On the slope of a mountain that’s a challenge, but we did it. The wheelchair user can feed the animals, can play games in the Club House and can enjoy socializing at outdoor parties and barbecues.
Four of our cottages have been developed to suit people with varying degrees of disability – The Old Water Mill, Miller’s Cottage, Sunset View Cottage and The Mill House. An access statement for each can be found here.
