Miller’s cottage is a very old stone barn – when we took off the tin roof we discovered an ancient heather-thatched roof underneath, which unfortunately disintegrated into dust; we should have liked to keep the old A frames, but decided it was impractical as people probably wouldn’t like climbing over them to get into bed!
Sleeps 10 + cot
4 bedrooms (one double with shower & one with king size bed).
From £226 for 2 nights (off-peak) to £1124 p/wk (peak)
Formerly a milking parlour – apparently years ago Cwmiar was a commercial dairy (we have several stone slates that they used to separate the milk from the cream) – we have converted it into a relaxing and comfortable cottage with all modern conveniences, but by keeping the stonework and the beams exposed have retained its olde worlde charm and atmosphere.
The front door opens into an entrance lobby then to a spacious sitting room with wood burning stove in the fireplace, tv /dvd player, and dining area; an archway leads into the kitchen with all mod cons including fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave, and family-size gas cooker. The bathroom where there is a washer/dryer, is on the ground floor including toilet, hand basin and bath with electric shower over and is accessible to wheelchair users – we have a swivel bath chair for their use (on request) and there is a twin bedroom on the ground floor with easy access for a wheelchair user.
Upstairs there are two double bedrooms – one with king-size bed and the other with a shower – with wardrobes and dressing tables with drawers under – the bed-heads and bedside units have been hand made from wood cut from our own trees that were the victims of a severe storm some years ago. The fourth bedroom has two sets of adult size bunk beds a wardrobe and dressingtable with drawers under. There is also an upstairs toilet with hand-basin (hot and cold).
All bed-linen and towels are supplied free of charge. There is a stairgate and a cot and a highchair is available on request.
The cottage is carpeted throughout and is centrally heated; each radiator has its own thermostatic control as well as the cottage thermostat. The oil usage is registered by meter and charged at cost, as is the electricity. Baskets of logs for the stove are available at cost.
On the back lawn there is a barbeque and garden furniture. Sit and enjoy your morning coffee and read the papers whilst the children play in the playground – close enough to keep an eye on them, but not near enough to be noisy!
