Mountain View cottage is a very old stone barn, which used to house the farmer’s cart, plough and other farm equipment and corn was stored on the floor above. Adjacent to the farmhouse, it has now been converted to a relaxing, comfortable cottage with all modern conveniences, and by keeping the stonework and old beams exposed, along with the handcrafted wooden furnishings it is warm and cosy with an ‘olde worlde’ atmosphere.
3 bedrooms – sleeps 8
From £191 for 2 nights for a couple with 2 children to £1000 p/wk (peak)
On the ground floor is the open-plan sitting room, with wood burning stove in the fireplace, tv/dvd player, dining area and kitchen with all mod cons including dishwasher, microwave and family-size electric cooker; there is a door to the utility room with washing machine and tumble-dryer and fridge-freezer, a further door opens to the bathroom, with toilet hand-basin and bath with electric shower over.
From the utility room is a door out onto the patio with barbeque and garden furniture. The playground is only a short run away – close enough to keep an eye on the children but not near enough to be noisy!
Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, with wardrobes and dressing tables with drawers under – the bedheads and bedside units have been hand made from wood from our own trees that were the victims of a storm some years ago.
The master bedroom has its own balcony overlooking the mill leat (the ‘overflow’ for the millpond, where they used to soak the cartwheels to make them tight for the journey home, whilst waiting for the corn to be threshed) and across the millpond to the mountain, with steps leading down to the patio. The third bedroom has two sets of adult size bunk beds and a cot, wardrobe and dressing table with drawers under. There is also an upstairs toilet with hand-basin (hot & cold).
All bed linen and towels are supplied free of charge. There is a stair gate and a highchair is available on request.
The kitchen/dining area is tiled for easy maintenance, the rest of the cottage is carpeted and it is all centrally heated; the oil usage is registered by meter and charged at cost, as is the electricity. Baskets of logs for the stove are available at cost.
*At certain times, if both of the small cottages are already booked, we will accept bookings for a couple with children who will occupy only two of the three bedrooms at a reduced rate.
