2 bedrooms – sleeps 4 + 1 (chair-bed) + cot
Access for wheelchair user who can manage 2 steps
The Mill House is one of the the oldest buildings at Cwmiar, built at the same time or before the mill. It is a crogloft – one of the first buildings to have sleeping accommodation in the loft and may date back to the Middle Ages. This cottage was almost a ruin when we arrived but is now a comfortable, cosy cottage. Our renovation keeps to the original style as much as modern convenience allows. As a result, the open plan mezzanine double bedroom makes this ideal as a romantic honeymoon cottage. The additional twin bunk-bed room means the cottage is just as comfortable for a family.
The door opens into a hallway which has two steps up to the open plan living area. There is a wood-burning stove in the magnificent inglenook fireplace, a dining area and kitchen. The kitchen area has a dishwasher, microwave and family-size electric cooker. A fridge-freezer and washer/dryer are under the stairs.
Also on the ground floor is the second bedroom with a set of adult size bunk beds and wardrobe with integral drawers. Next door to the bedroom is the bathroom with toilet, hand-basin and bath with electric shower over.
This cottage is suitable for a wheelchair user who can manage the two steps from the hallway to the living area and can use a bunk bed. A swivel bath chair is available on request.
The galleried double bedroom of the Mill House is very spacious. It contains a king size bed from where you can look over the living area of this cosy cottage.
The head board, bedside units and dressing table are all hand made from our own wood cut from trees which fell down in a storm several years ago. There is also a wardrobe and chest of drawers and a chair-bed for a fifth person if required.
*At certain times of the year we accept couples who will use only the double bedroom at a reduced rate. Please get in touch if you have any questions
The Mill House has it’s own patio with barbecue and garden furniture. You can sit and relax, watch the sheep and ponies (in the spring/early summer with lambs and foals) peacefully graze on the mountain only a few yards away. Or watch our own lovely Welsh Black cattle in the adjacent field.
