Walking

Cwmiar Farm Holiday Cottages in Wales are set in Lanllwni MountainAll types of walking from easy walking with the family to serious walking for the more experienced rambler.

Just through a gate, you can roam over LLanllwni mountain with it’s ponies and sheep.  In addition there are streams to paddle in and explore.

We are situated on the edge of the Cambrian Mountains which offer a wild and unspoilt area for walking.  Also part of the Cambrian mountains is the Brecha Forest with a number of trails for all abilities. – it’s all here on your doorstep, with breathtaking scenery, and many coastal walks as well.

Cycling

Cyclists on a mountain trackThere are several scenic cycling routes around. Either bring your own bikes or hire them locally. Our youngest visitors can enjoy cycling along the farm track to visit the cows. For the more experienced cyclist there are many quiet roads and traffic-free tracks on Llanllwni Mountain. It is a wonderful way to enjoy this unique environment which is second to none – peaceful, quiet and with very little traffic.

Drivers need to go slowly on the mountain to avoid running over ponies, foals, cattle, sheep, lambs which roam freely over the mountain. This makes it safer for cyclists. It’s like cycling on top of the world with 360 degree panoramic views.

For more serious cycling, there is of course Brechfa Forest; which has been purposely developed for walking, horse riding, off-road biking and cycling, with cycling trails for inexperienced to the most experienced riders. It is also possible to hire a local guide to help you discover the best mountain bike rides.

Horse-riding

Hacking on Llanllwni mountainIf you are horse-mad, like us, or have never sat on a horse before there is plenty of opportunity to experience the open countryside on horseback. Saddle Tramps, eight miles away, offers a variety of treks and trails suitable for all abilities from absolute beginners to seasoned riders. They are situated on Pencarreg mountain and have miles of open countryside to explore.

Golfing

There are several golf courses around us, from our local one (no clubhouse, no tickets, just an honesty box) but very enjoyable, to the very large, sophisticated and award winning. You could take the family to the beach at Llangrannog and spend a few hours playing golf nearby at Pentregat.

Kayaking

Kayaking on the river TeifiLLandysul Paddlers (7.5 miles away) offers a wide range of outdoor activities. This includes kayaking, white-water rafting, climbing and river swimming on, in and around our local river.

Fishing

Licences to fish on the Teifi can be bought in Llanybydder, just 3 miles away and then you can cross over the road and fish from the river bank there, or anywhere else along the river. There is also Springwater Lakes 30 minutes drive away, with 4 lakes all with access for the disabled angler.

They can arrange tickets for sea-trout and salmon fishing; they are also able to arrange for boat and beach fishing on the coast. At New Quay, a number of companies offer sea fishing trips.

Bird-watching

Even the more discerning bird-watcher will be kept busy on and off the farm.  We have a number of rare birds that nest here including Tawny Owls, Redstarts and the common Buzzard. A Red Kite visitor and feeding station is nearby and therefore they are seen frequently in the area.

Windchats and Stonechats are also among the hundred different bird species have been spotted in and around Cwmiar.
